Students and future leaders, welcome to the School of Management and Public Administration (SMPA). We are having another great academic year, and expect Semester 2 to be great as well. Let us all collaborate again to make this year a most successful one. For example, SMPA has a vibrant student association, MPASA; Good percentage of USP students earning scholarships for overseas study were SMPA students; and one of our students was recently awarded the Vice Chancellor's Medal for being the best All-Around Student.
Last year our undefeated student debate team won the FBE Inter-School Student Debate Series; and we again contend for the Championship. You can become a researcher for this team, and later become a debater. Perhaps you would like to join the Pacific Public Administrators Leadership Network (PAL) to better position yourself for the future.
In order to keep our academic programs relevant and of high quality, SMPA continues to offer specialised courses in its four academic areas. We have Majors in (1) Management and Public Administration; (2) Marketing and International Business; (3) HRM and Employment Relations; and (4) Public Sector Management. Our SMPA staff are experienced and student-focused; and are willing to be of assistance as you prepare for your respective professional careers. If you have any queries about the programs and courses, please contact the academic advisors- Ms Naolah Pitia and Dr Rafia Naz.
Our school is regularly contributing to Faculty Research Output. Last year product displays of our marketing students were well appreciated by all FBE students and staff. Being part of our school is exciting and challenging as well. We are also in the process of developing a new post-graduate degress, the Masters in Public Administration. Our schoolís success is largely based on the principles of honesty, integrity and hard work. The graduates of the SMPA have done very well both in the private and public sectors; and have become leaders in the Pacific Region. Some of our alumniís have taken up good positions in international organisations such as UNDP, JICA, UNIFEM etc.
While SMPA cannot guarantee you a great future, we can properly prepare you academically and professionally. If you are not yet a SMPA student, I urge you to decide now. The future waits for no one! If you have any queries, please contact Iliana Nasedra, phone 323 32137 or e-mail nasedra_i(at)usp.ac.fj.
